It is here. After a hectic fall semester, the relative calm of winter break is about to set in for many of us. Earlier today, I read a tweet from the wonderful Angela Maiers, imploring us all to take some time for ourselves this weekend. We need to do that. We deserve to do that.
Yes, I am fully aware that Christmas is only a few days away, and presents need to be wrapped, houses need to be cleaned before the onslaught of relatives, and exams need to be graded.
But despite all of this, follow Angela’s advice. Take some time this weekend and spend it on yourself. As educators, we pour so much of ourselves into our work and our students that it is imperative for us to disconnect from all of that, if only for a few moments. Recharge. Rejuvenate. Enjoy your time with family and friends. The spring semester will be here before we know it, and we will need all the energy in the world to continue to challenge, encourage, and support our students.
So, take a moment or two this weekend. Relax. You deserve it. And, thank you for all that you do. Because of all of the great educators out there, I am incredibly proud to be part of this profession. Enjoy your break, and get yourself ready for a wonderful spring semester.
